San Jose Municipal Stadium

In January 2008, the City of San Jose and the Baseball Acquisition Company agreed to extend the lease for the management and operation of San Jose Municipal Stadium, home of the San Jose Giants minor league baseball team. In doing so, the City designated the Arena Authority to perform an oversight role in the management of the minor league ballpark.

Built in 1942, San Jose Municipal Stadium was a federal Works Progress Administration (WPA) project during the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt. The original stadium cost $90,000 to construct and featured a seating capacity of 2,900. Since then, the seating capacity has been increased to 4,200 while the Giants established a new attendance record in 2008 with 192,666 fans.

The San Jose Giants are a Class A Advanced minor league affiliate of the major league San Francisco Giants and play in the North Division of the California League. The Giants have captured 9 California League championships, including recent league titles in 2007 and 2005. Additionally, the San Jose State University Spartans baseball team plays the majority of their home games at Municipal Stadium. Playing in the Western Athletic Conference, the Spartans were the 2000 WAC co-champions and advanced to the NCAA College World Series. In 2002, the Spartans played in the NCAA.

Located on the corner of Alma Avenue and Senter Road just south of the San Jose State University campus, Municipal Stadium?s intimate setting allows the park to retain the feel of a ballpark from a bygone era. With advertising on the outfield walls, an outdoor barbecue area, and regular fan access to Giants players, Municipal Stadium continues to promote the great tradition of creating lifelong memories from visiting the ballpark. .

As the operator of Municipal Stadium, the Baseball Acquisition Company is responsible for all day-to-day activities at the stadium. The Arena Authority?s oversight includes facilitating discussions relating to facility Capital improvements and assisting with the implementation of a Giants community ticket program for San Jose schools.
